Due to their innovative flat V12 engines and transverse gearboxes (and fantastic drivers, of course), the Ferrari 312T series of F1 cars brought dominant success back to Maranello.
From 1974-1979 they won 27 races, four F1 Constructor's Championships (their first since 1964) and three F1 Driver's Championships. At the time they were the most successful F1 cars ever.
Niki Lauda earned two Driver's Championships driving the 312T, in 1975 & 1977, and Jody Scheckter won it in 1979.
This Co-Hog prototype was made in 1978 using pine for the body and wings and maple for the tires. Brass tubing creates the spacing for the front and rear wheel tracks.
It measures 5 1/2" (14 cm) long x 3 1/2" (9 cm) wide. A simple tung oil finish was applied.
45 Years later it still looks great.
Considering the main Co-Hog offerings of that time, the 312T prototype is quite curvaceous.
It didn't fit in well with the rest of the Co-Hog line, which was in high demand, so it remained as an aspirational prototype for future efforts.
Although it is the only one made, it remains one of my favorites!
