The first of four Co-Hog Porsche G935's is ready for its beauty shots photography. The next three are in various stages of completion and will be finished in due time.
There are always a variety of projects in the shop and it's interesting to see which will demand my time each day.
Engine bay details were assembled after painting, graphics, clear coat and polishing work were completed.
Thirteen 3D printed parts were used to create a sculptural version of the iconic 935 rear end. Four parts make up each side’s turbo set with intake, the engine mounting plate is another, and each fender vent is another two parts
Main subassemblies: the body, wing, tires/wheels/wheel nuts, engine bits and the ID plate (not quite finished) were ready for assembly.
The wing is made up of four pieces; three were made using 3D printing and one is sheet styrene.
A turned acrylic tire, turned acrylic wheel, 3D printed wheel center, and a wheel axle/nut made up of three pieces of turned brass and aluminum make up each corner's connection to the road.
The body and wing were clear coated after all graphics were in place. The clear coat was then sanded with three grades of Super Assilex, compounded and finally polished.
This was no trivial task considering the small size and multitude of surfaces to work on.
Applying the fender vent louvers took four layers of transfer tape to layout and cut, and then two templates to properly position the eleven 0.025" (0.635mm) wide, evenly spaced louver strips on each fender.
The finish painted body and wing were sanded out using multiple grades of Super Assilex before application of the graphics.
I highly recommend Eagle Abrasives’ line of finishing products. They do what they say they will. (No, I’m not sponsored to say that.)
Acrylic templates were made to hand cut headlights and NACA ducts for the rear fenders and the intercooler housing. They're tedious to make and require even more focus to cut around for the final graphic elements.
There’s also a template for the side windows. Since they’re clear, they’re easy to position, make the cut and then flip to do the other side of the car.
Finished beauty shots are in progress and will certainly appear here before too long.
