Countach! Just the name elicits strong reactions. Even 50 years on, the shape and presence of the car are scintillating.
This Co-Hog Special Edition Countach distills the essence of the phenomena into a 6 1/2" (16.5 cm) long sculpture that creates a similar strong feeling for the icon. Just seeing it on the table brings pleasure and the urge to pick it up.
I don’t know how many owners have enjoyed it over its 42 years, but I know that it’s a treat for me.
A lower view is even better to appreciate the outright aggressiveness of the shapes.
If the wedge doesn’t get you, the air boxes will suck you in.
This is #6 of only 33 Co-Hog Countachs made and was completed in April of 1982.
The Countach was in the first group of five Special Editions introduced in 1982. Co-Hog was transitioning from the strong foundation of the original eighteen chunky models to sculptures with proportions and graphics more like their 1:1 counterpart.
The body is made from three pieces of Malaysian Jelutong wood. Automotive paint was used for the bodies. Wheels/tires are turned from maple and hand painted. The design of the wheel centers was interpreted with carefully placed punched vinyl circles.
Orange, red, and silver 3M Scotchcal was individually cut for the trim details, and flat black vinyl was used for the windows and other features.
The rear view shows how the body lines are resolved into the view most often seen by other drivers.
This is my favorite view. It’s sitting right there but looks like it’s already gone.
After 42 years, the #6/33 Co-Hog Countach is holding up well and I still enjoy seeing it waiting in the display case for its turn to be taken out and showed off.
